The Story
How It All Began
As a kid I remember sitting with my parents watching our modest 15” Television set as Norm Abrams first donned his tool belt in the premier of the all new PBS series “This Old House”. Ten years later Norm backed up his construction stardom on PBS further featuring his woodworking & power tool prowess in his series “The New Yankee Workshop”.
Norm’s show was usually preceded on those Saturday afternoons by an old world woodworking series “The Woodwrights Shop” staring Roy Underhill of Colonial Williamsburg fame. I was absolutely in awe as I watched these two week after week build and recreate furniture and building projects with true craftsmanship from present day of the time and days of old.
These two men, for the times and this ten year old boy, were the rock stars of woodworking and construction. Thus began my passion and love affair for tools, craftsmanship, wood and the smell of fresh saw dust in the air.
In 1990 American Woodwrights was born. As for the name I’m pretty sure you can see just where the inspiration came from as well as the attention and emphasis on quality craftsmanship and detail. Now 30 years later, though much technology has changed, the American Woodwrights commitment to deliver old world quality craftsmanship to our customers has not and it never will.
